Giving students fun and unique paper to write with is just one step in getting them to become writers. My students love it when I pull out a new "themed" paper or put something new and fun in their writing center. Everything I use all year (for writing paper) is in this file. Hope you can use it as much as I do.
Going into my second year teaching kinder and the hardest thing last year was...... teaching students to write. So, this summer I have spent time thinking about what I want to do starting in the beginning of the year. I have seen many different ways to teach students to write. I have rarely seen a wrong way. Each way has been different. I only know that I must teach the way I feel comfortable and see the most growth in my students. So, slow and steady is the way for me. We are starting the year with labels. Labeling everything around us. Sticky notes everywhere. We will also be making anchor charts with guided/interactive writing (labeling the pictures). I have also created a few pages to help with this activity for independent practice.
I printed these on cardstock, laminated the colored copies and put these in little bags or clips on each table's "group". This is a fun way to start the morning on those first few days. The kids can work together and you can see some of their skills.
