On my earlier post, I shared a new file that my kiddos loved. Below you will find a new one that is not included in this file for you to try out this Christmas. If you like it, check out the complete set for the year. There are 4 actual pages in this activity.. Count the lights 10-20.
Who knew something so simple could be such a hit? I started this activity with the turkey sight word hunt. We used it during our Special Person's Day. I originally used it for the kiddos that were stuck in the classroom with no "special person" to take them around school. However, it quickly turned into all the students not wanting to leave the classroom and their special person helping them "hunt" for the words. The next year I created a Boo Number Hunt game, using the same idea of searching the room. I put this activity out as a rotation/center for our Halloween party. Once again it was a HUGE hit. The kiddos didn't even want to decorate cookies until they had completed the scavenger hunt. My mind was blown!!! Needless to say, 2 years later I finally finished a scavenger hunt activity to go with each season. These can absolutely be used as a learning center, write the room, or for a fun scavenger hunt activity at your holiday celebrations. I have no doubt your students will love it as much as mine do every single time. Included are activities to practice with sight words, counting and number recognition. As I get time, I will be adding more activities. Any ideas? Send me a message and I will create it for you. For a fun twist I attached some of the scavenger hunt cards to myself. It was a blast when they started to realize a few of the words/numbers they couldn't find were moving about the room and attached to their teacher.
Recently I had another Kindergarten teacher come into my kinder classroom and share this adorable little story with my students. I had never heard it before. OF course, the only copy floating around is a little old and well used. I created this little "book" to make it easier to tell the story for myself and for my students. Now the students can look at the story as I am also making the "cuts" on the Little Orange House. I did not change any of the words in the story. I just made it into an easier to read "book" format. If you haven't tried this with your kiddos, you should. It's adorable. Just make the cuts as you see them in the story. What a surprise at the end! Click on the cover page.
I got this idea from a fellow teacher, but I remade them a little smaller. Click on the Non-Fiction sign for the freebie.
My kinder kiddos love learning about retelling and text to self connections with this story. We do an anchor chart where students share things they are afraid of (just like Mummy). After we brainstorm, students write/ draw their own text to self connection. The second page is what I use to help students in their story retell. We put them on sentence strips. I have them work in partners to retell. Then ask for "helpers" to retell to the class.
The following pages are used with Pete the Cat and the Missing Cupcakes. I have my students do a "retell" by using things that are and are not in the story. There are 3 pages in all. Two are student copies, the color is for our Anchor Chart. We have been working on Retell, rhyming, and some of our favorite books done by the same Author/Illustrators. Hope you can use these free activities.
